ABOUT

As a freelance writer with an aversion to sitting still, I've contributed to a wide range of publications including Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia, Time Out New York, Edible East End, WorldHum.com, Edible Hudson Valley, the Village Voice, Penthouse, the San Francisco Chronicle, Rails to Trails, and DestinAsian. My articles on craft beer have also appeared in DRAFT, Beer Connoisseur, All About Beer, BeerAdvocate, The New York Times Guide to Essential Knowledge, and the Oxford Companion to Beer. In April 2011, Globe Pequot Press released my first book, Best Hikes Near New York City. GPP also published my second book, Camping New York, in May 2013.

During my tenure as a reference editor at Oxford University Press, NPR's Weekend Edition, Peter Greenberg Worldwide Radio, and other nationally syndicated programs invited me on air to discuss geography and my work updating a bestselling world atlas. These days, when not hunched over a laptop in an airport or a hotel room, I'm often leading trips as a licensed guide for Discover Outdoors in New York.

I'm a member of the American Hiking Society and the North American Guild of Beer Writers. Find me elsewhere on Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Flickr or send an email to: whereandback AT gmail.com.
